The internet is too big.
This site is for the people who live and work in Auburn.
Unlike Facebook, there are no algorithms serving up random stuff, or removing conversations.
Escape from doomscrolling and let's go back in time to when the internet was fun!
This site is for real people having real conversations.
A Bulletin Board allows for rich threaded conversations, so everyone can talk TO EACH OTHER, rather than AT EACH OTHER.
and to format text, which helps us understand each other's specific points. It is easy to quote what others say,
The goal of this site to combine the best of all things:
- a place to ask questions,
craigslist,
a newspaper with citizen journalists,
meeting notices,
public comments,
civic education and town information,
schedules and events,
referrals and advice,
election platforms for candidates,
business yellow pages,
a neighborhood kitchen table.
and everyone can explore and ask questions on whatever interest they may have.
You can subscribe to either forums or specific topics that interest you.
Advertising is okay, but please do not spam with the same information. Once is enough.
Create a topic for your business, and add new comments as it makes sense to. Link to your website and/or post pictures.
There is a specific advertising forum, too. Do not cross post, except maybe for events.
Many forums have been created, but others can be added upon request. Let me know if you have a topic that needs another forum.
Send an email to admin at auburnbb.net
You have the ability to create your own topic within all the forums.
If you want to ask a question, discuss an issue, just find the right forum, start a topic, and begin the conversation.
Conversations often wander widely. I would encourage people to let them wander just like at a kitchen table. Quoting a point makes it easy to get back on track. Avoid discussing the discussion.
Churchgroups, sports teams, businesses, civic groups, hobbies, everything and everyone is welcome.
If you have a website, create a topic for yourself, list it there with whatever else you want to share.
If it's happening in Auburn, feel free to add your voice.
This is an experiment! You are in charge. It will be as interesting and useful as you make it. I will be learning as I go how to run the software.
I think the town needs a place where we can all talk to each other.
The board will be lightly moderated.
Please be respectful in your disagreements and questions. Defend your statements.
Please avoid posting meme images without comment, no AI images, no partisan junk. Head to Facebook for that.
Political DEBATE is welcome. Talk, listen, respond to what was said.
You will learn more by talking to people you disagree with. Heat is ok, just be respectful and stay on point.
Keep an open mind.
Democracy thrives on consensus and mutual understanding. There is no substitute.
The truth will set us all free, but we have to do the work to find it.
It would be best if you use your real name as your user name! Let's all get to know each other.
